Marketing your Information Product
Okay…once you have your info product written, it is time to market it! But how?
- Your website
- google adwords
- online ads
- magazine ads
- free classifieds
- message boards
- eBay
- writing articles for ezines
Let’s take a look at each one:
- Get listed with the search engines. This is a must.
- Online ads: These can be placed at websites that relate to your information product. Look for links named “advertise” or “advertise with us.” Cost varies.
- Magazine ads: These can be expensive, but will pay off big time. When I placed my first magazine ad for shuttermom.com in Photographic magazine, my sales increased 200%. My $360 ad made me over $4,000 in one month. Unfortunately Photographic magazine is no more, but now I have monthly ads in Popular Photography, Shutterbug, and Digital Photographer.
- Take a look at http://www.ammclas.com/default.htm. This company can help you place those classified ads in the backs of VERY popular magazines that have millions of subscribers. Your ad will be viewed by thousands, if not millions of people. This can pay off BIG TIME and is worth the investment.
- Niche magazines. Get a copy of a magazine specifically geared toward your niche market. Most magazines usually have a shopping section where ads are displayed, and will have contact info for placing an ad. Get in contact with them and see about placing your ad. Even the smallest ad can work wonders. People really do read them!
- Free Classifieds: There are many websites that will let you place a free classified ad. Here are a few to get you started:

- Message boards and forums: Now, you have to be careful here. Do not post an ad to a message board unless they allow it (and most do not). However, whenever you post something on a message board, have your web address under your signature. This is allowed and not considered “spam.” People get mad when you just blatantly post an advertisement. One exception: some message boards have a category called “post your ads here,” or “advertise your business here.”
- eBay: Ahhh, eBay! I love them! Create auctions or “buy it now” listings for your info product. I usually offer my info products at a discount on eBay for incentive.
Visit the eBay learning center here: http://pages.ebay.com/education/selling.html. You can find out all about selling on eBay. It is EASY!
- Writing articles for ezines: This is definitely something you should consider. Ezine publishers are constantly on the lookout for content. Write a short article relating to your topic, and end it with an “about me” or “resource” box containing your name, business name, website, email, and any other contact info. See the example below:
